I intend to use the theme of places and spaces as it resembles a major part of my identity and showcases a variation of photographic devices which I have previously worked in. This theme is also significant as places allow me to express myself and my personal experiences with places and spaces. By accomplishing this style I will be able to showcase my experiences along with my interests with my Sikh identity. Places and Spaces will also allow me to develop a more personal insight within my own experiences as it resembles an important factor that local places and architecture resembles.
In additon , I have chosen to work in the style of Candida Hofer as she insightfully illustrates the theme of classical sites along with a range of photographic devices, which I intend to use in my work. Hofer showcases this through her photoshoots in libraries and museums which serve as symbols of classical society along with its meaning and significance to society. This is significant as it is as if the photo has its own story and message behind the simple. Perhaps, Hofer does this to showcase her forte of old buildings as it is a theme eloquently used throughout her work. I intend to link this to my work through using major parts of my identity and conveying it through the styles in which it involves her style of work. I intend to link this research back to the theme of Sikh identity as it personally resonates with my backgrounds, Hofer similarly does this through her works as she evidently has a passion towards personal buildings which relate to her development in her photographic journey. I also intend to develop this research through using similar photographic devices that Hofer displays throughout her work. For example, the use of perfect symmetry, perspective and a central focal are adroitly used throughout her works and this resonates with. In my opinion, this is recognised as the key features and symbols of Hofer’s work which provide it with a distinct definition and symbolism and make it distinguishable from other photographers who also work within the same field. Within this project, I intend to use photographs which encapsulate the essence of Sikh identity, similarly how Hofer uses major parts of her passion and identity which would inspire me to work with the same themes that Hofer uses. By taking photos with the same intention as Hofer, I would be able to construct images which also utilize the same style as Hofer. I would also be able to convey the message of my passion and identity through my works and images, which I would be able to enhance through research in depth. I intend to enhance this theme through working within the style of Sebastian Weiss as he conveys architectural significance through his work, which showcases the importance of abstract photographjy along with suburban towns, which is commonly demonstrated throughout his works. Weiss does this in order to create photos that link to his personal passion and insight upon architecture photography. Perhaps He utilizes the style of architecture photography as he showcases a sense of creativeness through the diversity and collectivity that the images have as they both use ideas of identity along with his personal take upon it as it also showcases his passion for photography. I intend to utilize his ideas and works through taking photos that link with diverse architecture and relate to my perosnal implications of this work. I will also be able to use the style of Weiss through creating images that showcase my passion and interests, local areas.
Furthermore, accomplishing this project, I will be able to construct a piece of work which illustrates the sentimental parts of my identity, which serve as a major factor of my personality and development as a youth. By working within this style I will also be able to construct work that is similar to my identity as a citizen of Manchester, by photographing architecture which historically showcases the contributions of Manchester. Hence, I will be able to incorporate ideas that reflect my identity as a British Sikh. To conclude, my alternative goal of this project is to aim towards a work which showcases my personal beliefs and sentimental factors of my life which both Hofer and Weisis eloquently showcase throughout their photos.
Analysis 2
Context Candida Hofer was born in Germany 1944, and had developed a passion for photography as she attended Kunstacaddemie which is recognized as one of Germany's most popular schools of photography. Whilst she had studied filmmaking under great influencers such as Ole John, she had developed influence from Bernd and Hilla Bocher who mimic the style of classic archetcture. This is evidently emphasised through Hofer’s work as she mimics the theme of old and classical architecture. In my opinion, this is her forte as she also explores libraries, museums and palaces which also have significant correlations with Bocher’s theme of photography. In addition, this picture was taken in ‘Trinity college library in Dublin’ and was given an award due to this image, she had established this image as she made this in 2018. She had stated when receiving this, 'It is a tremendous privilege to be able to present this Award to such an important artist who has broken boundaries in her profession.’ This image was made for the competion, alluding to her dedication and devotion towards her style of photography and highlights her influences, directions. This image is not directed towards any social or historical context but rather is aimed towards inspiring the youth and directed towards expressing her passion for libraries and the youth. Alternatively, this image exemplifies the significance and character of Hofer as it shows her forte of photography.
Content This image was established for Hofer’s competition which occurred in 2018, this image is significant as she intends to make this image for her passion towards the style of library photography. This image is about showcasing the importance of the libraries and the significance they hold within society as they not only serve as a center of knowledge, but are holders and keepers of history. In my opinion, Hofer had intricately and cleverly established this photo to showcase the complex importance of libraries and show how libraries emphasis the emotions of classical OR are the backbone of communities. In this image the theme of realism and leading lines is established through the bars at the top of the library and which create an effect of interest within the eyes of the viewer as it endlessly shifts through the countless bars of the image. This is significant as it eventually draws to the focal point of the image which is enhanced as it is portrayed as the center of the image. The theme of realism is also highlighted through the realistic manner of the image as it has the idea of actuality is portrayed through the books of the image and the further part of the image which is the door at the other end. In addition, Hofer has completed this image with an array effects of books, this provokes the viewer to move his eyes along the photo which develops the intrigue of the image. Hofer had designed this photo in a manner which utilises the effect of a bright light, which is showcased through the patterns of light and this enhances the texture of the photo. This image is further developed through it being taken within a historical setting which also has a classical effect to it, Hofer cleverly does this to reflect her passion for libraries and classic places as this is recognised as her signature style of photography.
Composition Hofer has evidently used focal points and this is shown through the bars on top of the photo being directed towards a door in the middle of the photo. The use of this photographic effect is significant as it helps the viewer to gaze into the main part of the image and be intrigued. This is the main feature of the image and establishes a pleasing view to us. Perhaps Hofer uses this effect to captivate the viewer into the main focus of the image so that their focus towards the sentimental factors of the image. This effect is enhanced throughout the photo as it establishes as it divides certain features of the image into specific areas. Hofer had purposefully used this setting and background in order too reflect her major idea photography so her forte of classic sites is conveyed throughout all her photos. Perhaps, Hofer had used this setting and backdrop to reflect her personality through her work and a sense of aesthetic harmony within the image. In my opinion, Hofer has utilised an ISO of 1600 so it establishes a brighter sense to the image and in this way the image changes as it goes inwards. Hofer may have used this effect to establish this image for an indoor style of photography, which matches her theme. In addition, the device of perfect symmetry is showcased through the image as the image develops inwards and hence makes a balanced and proportional effect towards the image. This develops the viewers insight throughout the image as it makes the image appear neat, tidy and clinical. The use of this style pulls the viewers captivation inwards of this image. Hofer may have used this style to reflect her major theme of classical works throughout the development of the image. Perhaps this links to the style of mirroring as it creates a sense of balancing within this image to create and then makes the viewer intrigued into the central feature of the image. Alternetaley, this affects the perspective of the image as it has a 2 sided dimension, which allows the viewer to develop an insight into the complexity of the image.
Comment In my opinion, this work has a variation of implications and interpretations as it includes a diverse range of photographic devices and themes which personally resonate with the photographer. This is significant as it relates to the forte of Hofer which is evidently directed towards the theme of classical architecture such as museums and libraries. Hofer uses these devices and themes to provoke the viewer to develop an insight of their image so their opinion of the image gradually develops throughout/. Perhaps Hofer can develop this image through utilising the devoice of leading lines as it significantly links to symmetry and has many similarities throughout both themes. Hofeer can also develop the image by enhancing the ISO as it can make the image develop more curiosity and sense in the viewer's eyes.
Sebastian Weisis moodboards
Sebestiann weisis analysis
Context The photo was made by Sebestoiann Weisis on the 9th of February 2021, he was born in 1971 and had developed a passion for photography in the year 2013. Weisis having constructed the University of Arts on Berlin had then began taking photos in which highlighted his forte style of various unique shapes on buildings. This is significant as his focal style of photography is expressed through the aesthetics of buildings and the complex styles which they have. Perhaps, this is significant as this reflects the complex emotions that Weiss had may of encountered within his life. One of the variety of purposes of this photo alludes to the theme of geometry. as this is shown this is emphasized through the irregular patterns of the buildings. and shapes. In addition, another purpose of this image is to showcase the theme the complexity of architecture and how that has developed over time.
Content This photo has been established within a portrait manner along with the effect of black and white surrealism as the building has distorted patterns within it. Weiss has included this contrast to emphasise the importance of the unique geometrical shapes within this image. Perhaps he had included the theme of black and white contrast to highlight the intricate styles, textures and patterns so that these styles are more overlooked within the image compared to the color of the image itself. In addition, the texture of this image is showcased through the uniqueness of the maze style patterns and this is done to take the viewers eyes on a journey throughout the image, in order to evoke emotions of curiosity and interest. The significance of texture has been included within this image to reveal the surface of the image. Leading lines have been effectively established within this image to draw vivid attention to fine and detailed parts of the image, which may be distinguishable to the common architecture image. The photographical device of leading lines is commonly repeated within Weisis work and this is because leading lines show the importance of the heart of the image. In this is the maze-like patterns of the building. Furthermore, this image has a central focal point. Weiss's having featured many architectural sites such as Helinski, Lyon, Metz and Leipzig clearly highlights his fascination and deep interest within urbanized landscapes, cities. This instantly shows towards the viewer that Weisis main focus is demonstrated through the irregular geometric shapes. Hence, this informs the viewer upon the significance of shapes within his work and what was the main feature of the image is. Weise's has not named this image, but rather aims to make the image subjective to the viewer so that the significance of the image resonates with us. Alternatively, Wesis having documented sites such as “La Muralla Roja,” shows the viewer that the purpose of this image is to show the importance of buildings in public /performance.
Composition Weiss's has utilized the effect of ISO and this is highlighted through the high exposure of the image, which creates a high sensitivity within the image, which reduces the graininess. This could make the image sharp, brighter and reduces the harness of the image. A central focal point is shown through the image as the building is at the core of the image which excludes the blue background, which provokes the viewer to shift their focus to maze like patterns of the building. In my opinion, I think this gives the building an isolated effect and this means that theme and tone is carried over from the image to viewers emotions. Weise's has also utilised the effect of symmetry and this means that the photo is identical on both sides of the image, hence this creates flowing patterns that help organize the photo, along with a mundane effect to it. This can provoke the reader to shift from the marble shape of the image towards the leading patterns which highlights the perfect and sharp part of the image. In addition, this creates a sense of harmony and order throughout the image as the white part of the building is symmetrical, which could show the viewer that the main focus of the image is directed towards the marble structure. The use of rule of thirds is established through the building being the focal point of the image and this means that the viewers eyes are able to flow through the image, so that they brought to the center of the image. Perhaps Weise's uses this effect to create a sense of contrast from the initial backdrop and the focal point of the image. The effect of this is conveyed through the image to show the viewer that the overall focus of the image is centered towards the contrast in color and the building.
Comments In my opinion, this work has countless interpretations and meanings to it and this is constantly reflected through Weise's work. this means that this image takes the viewers eyes on journey throughout the image. However, there are some critiques that Weiss has within this image. For example, I am unsure of the significance of the themes as the significance of this is quite complex and difficult to understand. In my opinion, this image can be improved by reducing the lighting so that the photograph is able to develop an aesthetic in which is appealing to the viewer. By introducing this within the image Weise's is able to enhance this image by adding more colour and texture to the image so it changes the viewers focus throughout the image.
who designed these buildings?
Place- Salford Quays
High Rise Buildings - Experimenting with angles
These images, have been taken in Salford Quays, which is the heart of British broadcasting news channels such as ITV and the BBC, which work around this environment. This place is also recognized for ts phenomenon of lights as a smooth and appealing aesthetic is showcased during the early evening.
Bottom left image In my opinion, this is one of my best images in this gallery as this vividly highlights the central focal point of the image, which is directed to the buildings. Perhaps this is one of the best photos in the gallery as it highlights the central point which is directed at the architecture which is showcased as the central focal point of the image. This image also utilizes the photographic device of setting and backdrop as it vividly illustrates the buildings within a symmetrical manner. Additionally, this image involves the photographic device of rule of thirds as the sentimental part of the image is in the center and hence, the viewers eyes are alluded to this part of the image. This makes the viewer intrigued into the central focus of this image and develops their insight of the image as there vision transgresses across the image. Alternatively , this image is the best images within this gallery as it evidently conveys the central key messages intended to establish in this shoot.
Best image worst image
Best image In my opinion, this is the best images in this gallery as it showcases the rules of thirds as the central focal point of the image and uses a backdrop which creates an effect of realism which alludes the viewers attention into the major part of the image which is the buildings. Perhaps, this is the best image as it showcases the major theme of my work as it illustrates the importance of architecture, which is the central focus of this project. I intend to enhance this image by establishing zooming into the central focal point of the image, so it appears more satisfying to the eyes of the viewer and develops their insight throughout the image. In addition, the use of setting has been encapsulated through this image as it has a sense of aesthetic harmony along with a serene sense of harmony which is conveyed through the clouds in the background. Alternatively, this is he best images in the gallery as it utilizes the effect of backdrop quite ideally and conveys the major purpose of this photo shoot.
Worst image In my understanding this is one of my least favorite images in this gallery as it is devoid ed f the central purpose of this project, which is directed towards conveying the significance of local architecture. However, this image lacks photographic devices such as rule of thirds as the central and major part of the image is not showcased at the center of the image, but rather in a different manner. Perhaps this is one of the lest appealing images in this gallery as it is not entirely focused upon the major part f the image but rather has other objects in the background. For example, there are trees present in the image which is not the central purpose and there is also other buildings showing in the way. Therefore, this image is not directed towards its main purpose of encapsulating architecture. Alternatively, I am able to enhance this image by directing it to the main focus of the image and giving providing an insightful manner in taking this image.
Poppies at The War Museum
In my opinion, this is one the best images in the album as it portrays the major focus of the shoot through conveying the significance of the war memorials along with a sense of architecture. This enables the viewer to develop an insight into the major focus of the image, as it relates to the overall theme and messages intended to be conveyed. Perhaps, this one of the best images in the gallery as it has a style of light entering the photo which establishes a symbolic effect as the flowers are symbolic of remembrance and the light highlighting reverence
Best image
In my opinion, this is the least appealing image in my work as it does not portray the alternative focus of the image but rather is not showed in proportion and significantly lacks diversity and does not showcased a broad understanding of this project as it does not direct towards the significance of architecture. In my opinion, this image can be enhanced through showcasing the central focus of architecture rather than the disparaged patterns of the flowers. In order to develop this image, I need to show photographic devices and skills which link to the overall theme of my project.
War Museum
Best image
In my understanding, this one of the best images in this gallery as it conveys the main purpose of my project as it uses the central focus of the image and showcases a variation photographic devices. such as using the rule of thirds as the figurative freautre of the image Is the upper point of the building. Perhaps this is the main part f my image as it distinguishes the other factors in the image which are separated from the main point. Alternatively, I am able to develop this image through cropping the bottom part of thee image, so I am able to put the central part of the image in focus.

My Shoot in the style of Candida Hofer
Plan for Shoots
Name:
Ashok Singh
Project Title/ shoot number : Places and Spaces Component 3
Description of aims for shoot: Within this shoot I intend to establish a shoot which details a variation of themes and skills, so I am able to display the significance of architecture and how this can impact the viewer's emotions. This can be experimented through completing a photoshoot at the local Gurdwara. By establishing this shoot I am able to convey the significance of my identity through this component. In addition, this can be achieved through taking a variety of angels and spaces which detail the importance of this project. I am able to develop this shoot via establishing a shoot which details a variety of themes and colours, so that I am ab,ke to enhance the themes portrayed within my shoot. Another aim of this shoot is directed to conveying the importance of themes, tones and themes.
Links with Photographers Within this moment of time there are no photographers which detail the significance of religious and important spaces within local areas. I believe that by establishing this shoot I will be able to make influence of my own ideas which will help my ideas for the future of this project. By creating a photoshoot within this manner, I am able to emphasise the skills within local architecture and photography. Within this shoot, I will demonstrate a variation of themes and angels which will develop this style of photography.
Upper Chorlton Road Manchester u No props needed Camera, lighting Backdrop will the interior of the temple
Camera settings I will use:
F-Stop : White Balance: Shutter speed: ISO:
I want to establish a shoot which uses an F-stop, which details the focal point of the image and the backdrop. This can also be used to enhance the themes and tone portrayed within the image. In addition, this can be further utilised by showing a variation of ideas and definitions. I will be indoors, within a building and this can be achieved by using a white balance of the image, so that I am able to achieve a shoot in which I am able to achieve an advanced level shoot. USing Tungsten can be developed and this means that
Approximately 1/125, by using this shutter speed I will be able to convey a shot with a swell-lit speed at a controlled rate. So I am able to create a detailed appearance towards it. I will keep this ;low, as I will be working inside and this means that I will be able to adjust the ISO,, to the appropriate l;evel needed/. For an advanced level shoot.
Which compositional rules will I use? (Rule of Thirds, even numbers, odd numbers, symmetry, asymmetry, leading lines, patterns, repetition, triangles, birds eye view, worms eye view, central focal point) I will use the rule of thirds to enhance my shoot by emphasizing the religious objects and fundamental items at the center of the photoshoot. This is significant as it brings a focal point that will be emphasized as the core center of the image. I will also use the technique of leading lines in order to establish an illusion towards the sentimental items and points of focus. This is significant as this takes the viewers eyes on journey throughout the image, so the themes and tones of the image are developed as thor eyes move throughout the image. I can also use the bird and worm's eye view, so I am able to create an illusion from the ground towards a high point. This demonstrates a theme of contrast throughout the image, through the establishment of birds eye and worm's eye photography. Alternatively, this will develop my theme in throughout the image.
Sikh Temple (Gurdwara)
Best image
In my opinion, this one of the best images in this album as it captures the theme of identity, which I intended to convey throughout my work and is significant towards the overall theme of the project, and this links to the main theme of religion which is essential towards the development of my work. This image is also my best, as it highlights certain photographic e=devices for example, depth is included as the sacred texts are stacked within an organized and balanced manner. This contributes to the overall aesthetic and style I intend to convey through this work. I am able to develop this work through including other photographic devices such as rule of thirds so a central focus is established throughout the image. In this way the image is developed to an advanced image.
In my opinion, this is one of the less appealing images in this album as the backdrop has it has other parts outside the image showing, which prevents the viewer from encountering the image at the best of its capacity. Perhaps, this is the least best of images as the photo is not entirely shown and hence does not fulfill the overall purpose of the style I intend to work in. This image can be developed through reducing the shadows at the top of the image as it vividly distorts the rule of thirds and does not create an equal light amount on both sides of the image.

Evaluation
EVALUATION I have intended to establish a project of places and spaces to showcase my ideas and senses of creativity m, which is showcasing the theme of identity and religion. This is significant towards my project as it showcases a personal but yet detailed response to the project. I have developed this project through using a plethora of photographic and photoshop devices such as working in the style of Candida Hofer who is fundamental in showcasing a wide range of architecture which links towards her past experiences and passions. My first initial thoughts to this project was aimed towards showing the theme of architecture that links toy personality and my identity as a British Sikh. Throughout this project, I have used a variation of photographical devices such as the use of rule of thirds, so I am able to highlight the key sentimental parts of an image: I have also used other devices such as worms eye view, which significant throughout my photoshoots as it vividly resembles the fundamental parts of the image through a uncommon style of photography. Additionally, I have further developed this project as I have have carried out a variation of photoshoots which are closely linked towards the theme of architecture and yet identity such as partaking in shoots at Safford Quays, which are closer factors that link towards the style of photographers such as Sebastian Weisis as he vividly highlights the theme of abstract architecture throughout his work.
